History

A castle stood on the estate by the late 16th century, when Pál Gyulai was killed there in 1591 or 1592. The estate belonged earlier to the Kolozsmonostor abbey, and later to the Tompa and Gyulai families before Péter Huszár de Brenhida acquired it in 1595. When the male Huszár line died out, it passed through female heirs, eventually to the Boér de Kövesd family; József Boér de Kövesd was made baron in 1728. The present building dates from the early 19th century, and Baron Károly Huszár III reshaped it from a U-plan to an L-plan in the late 19th century, adding a rotunda, a carriage ramp and a pediment. After nationalisation it served as a cooperative office and then a special-education school, and has been abandoned since the school moved to a new building. In 2010 the castle, outbuildings and park were returned to heirs living in Hungary.
