History

Chancellor Sámuel Teleki began the castle in 1769; the north wing was ready by 1770 and the south wing was started in 1773, with a family crypt in 1774. His great-grandson, the African explorer Count Sámuel Teleki, added the central neo-Baroque body in 1912-1914 to a design by István Möller, but it was never fully fitted out. After 1945 the interior was looted, and the building later housed a technological school. It was restituted to Teleki heirs living in Canada in 2005, and in 2019 sold to a private buyer. The new owners cleaned and renovated the cellars and announced plans for a museum, conference room and cardiac rehabilitation centre.
