History

Voivodeni is first mentioned in 1332. A long outbuilding appears on the Austrian military survey of 1769-1773, and the main house probably dates from the second half of the 18th century, with possible reconstruction around 1800. Owners passed from the Bethlen family (Count László Bethlen lived here in 1751) through the Kemény, Kuun and Klebelsberg families to the Zichys by the late 19th century, and later to the Bánffy line through a marriage. The estate was nationalised in 1949, the family expelled, and the house became the village cultural centre while the outbuilding was altered for a cooperative and deteriorated badly by 2004. After long litigation the property was recovered by the heirs in the early 2010s. It was leased for 49 years to a tenant who restored it with private funds.
