Legal status
Seized by the state under communism; later restituted ↗
History
Theodor C. Văcărescu, Marshal of the Court of King Carol I, built the manor in 1882-1892 on the foundations of a 17th-century house of the Mănescu family. Architect Paul Gottereau drew the plans, and Peleș provided the model. The estate passed to the Callimachi family by marriage early in the 20th century. The state seized it at the start of the communist period and it housed various institutions, becoming a children's tuberculosis preventorium in the 1960s. It burned in 1974 during roof repairs, and restoration planned after the 1977 earthquake stopped for lack of funds. It has since been restituted and is private property.
