Summary

The ruined 17th-century palace of Grand Postelnic Constantin Cantacuzino at Filipeștii de Târg (Prahova), built on the right bank of the Prahova. Only fragments of brick walls and cellars remain.

History

Grand Postelnic Constantin Cantacuzino built the palace between about 1635 and 1641 on the right bank of the Prahova. It reportedly held the library of his scholarly son, also named Constantin Cantacuzino, and Constantin Brâncoveanu is said to have grown up there. Accounts describe a marble bathroom with running water and floor and wall heating. The earthquakes of 1787 and 1789 partly destroyed it and it was never rebuilt. Only some partly plastered brick walls and a cellar survive today.
