History
The manor was built between 1880 and 1898 by Dumitru Rosetti-Tescanu and became a gathering place for artists and intellectuals. George Enescu spent many summers there between 1909 and 1946 and completed his opera Oedipe at Tescani. In 1947 his wife Maria (Maruca) Rosetti-Tescanu Enescu donated the property to the state, with the aim of turning it into a cultural centre. The house was restored and opened as a memorial in 1970. In 1990 Tescani became a centre for meetings and artistic events, and in 2007 it became a section of the George Enescu National Museum. The listed ensemble also includes the St George church and the Rosetti spirit factory.
