Summary

A neoclassical manor built around 1904 in Măgura, Bacău County, on the estate of the landowner Emil Brăescu, and listed as a monument of local importance. Expropriated in 1949, it passed after 1990 to the Casa Copilului foundation.

Legal status

Expropriated and transferred to the state on 20 March 1949; later donated by the heir to the Casa Copilului Foundation ↗

History

According to Via Bacovia, the manor was built around 1904 by the landowner Emil Brăescu and his wife Elena on the family estate; Vatra MCP says the estate belonged to the Rosetti boyar family in the 19th century. The manor stood in a rectangular, stone-walled enclosure with the estate's working buildings around it. The property was expropriated and transferred to the state on 20 March 1949, and its former owners emigrated to Canada. From 1949 to 1990 the manor and its dependencies were managed by the county's Casa Agronomului. According to Vatra MCP, the sole heir of the family later donated the inheritance to the Casa Copilului Foundation in Bucharest, and the commune's Wikipedia article says the building now houses that foundation.
