Summary
An 18th-century manor house in Șărmășag (Sălaj County), dated 1745, that passed from the Sarmasághy family to the Kemény family by marriage. After nationalisation it served in turn as a school, clinic, hospital and police station, and Monumente Uitate lists it as a cultural centre.
History
The Sarmasághy family held the village first. The estate passed to the Kemény family after János Kemény married Ana, daughter of János Sarmasághy. The manor house is dated 1745. In 1893 the rich merchant Albin Fröhlich bought the estate, and it later went to his adopted heir Hartwig Wersebe-Fröhlich. After nationalisation the building was used as a school, clinic, hospital and police station. Hungarian sources note that a bronze bust of János Kemény was unveiled in front of the former manor in 2005, for the village's 650th anniversary. Monumente Uitate gives its current function as a house of culture.
