History

Hodod was given to Ferenc Wesselényi by Prince István Báthory in 1584, and the family later split into the Jibou and Hodod branches. In 1761 Count Ferenc Wesselényi commissioned the Austrian Josef Lintzmann to build a residence modelled on a Hildebrandt palace at Ráckeve. After problems with the work and the count's death in 1770, his son Farkas replaced Lintzmann with the Cluj master Franz Gindtner, and later with Antal Szoldáti, under whom the main building was completed in 1776. The kitchen, stables and servants' quarters were added by Josef Leder, and the works ended in 1787 with the paving of the courtyard using stone from the demolished fortress. The compact building has a high mansard roof and facade carvings and coats of arms attributed to Anton Schuchbauer. After nationalisation it became a public building, and it now houses the mayor's office.
