Summary

A Baroque-style manor from the early 19th century in Gad, Ghilad commune (Timiș County), built by the Fodor family and last owned by the Gudenus barons. Later used as the village school, it is now an abandoned ruin owned by the commune.

History

Hungarian sources say the manor was built in the 19th century by the Fodor family, after the Gad area was divided into six estates in 1810. By 1890 the estate belonged to Baroness Gudenus. Adalbert (Béla) von Gudenus was born in Gad in 1863 and died in Timișoara in 1941. The building later served for some years as the village school, then was abandoned and is now in an advanced state of decay. The two-storey block with basement keeps old wooden window frames and patches of plaster.
