History

In 1853 Ioan Mocioni de Foeni bought the 6,000-iugăr Căpâlnaș estate from the Zichy counts for 260,000 florins. The Mocioni family built the palace, with plans attributed to the Viennese architect Otto Wagner (1867 per Romanian Wikipedia; press gives construction in 1876-1879). It has a ground floor and one upper floor and is modelled on the French style, with four Corinthian columns on the facade. A later Mocioni heir married into the Teleki counts, which gave the castle its double name. In 1934 the writer Patrick Leigh Fermor stayed there with Count Jenő Teleki, an entomologist, and his wife Tinka Mocsonyi. The castle was confiscated in 1947; press reports say it was claimed and obtained in 2007 by a Teleki heir and has since been rented out. It was restored in 1964 and later served as a hospital (sanatorium or psychiatric, sources differ). According to press reports, Artmark listed the palace and estate for sale at 1.1 million EUR in 2019.
