History
The castle was built in the 19th century, with the Mocioni de Foen family acquiring the estate in 1858. Later owners included Antoniu Mocioni and his adopted son Ionel Mocioni-Stârcea, and King Carol II visited often for hunting. One source credits Baron Fechtig-Fechtenberg with the construction, while Romanian Wikipedia names the architect Mór Kallina. It later served as a sanatorium for lung patients under the Arad Municipal Hospital. Following health-system reforms the property passed to Arad City Hall, and the sanatorium closed about 15 years before 2025. By late 2025 the roof had partly collapsed and the building was overgrown, and the city was considering a concession.
