History
Count Elek Kendeffy built the first castle on the site of an older manor, with a 1777 building contract and a plaque dated 1782. After 1868 Árpád Kendeffy had it remodelled in neo-Gothic style to plans by József Schulcz and Ferenc Storno the Elder; he died in 1881 before completion, and his widow Gabriella Inkey carried out repairs after Crown Prince Rudolf stayed in 1882. The castle was nationalised in 1946 or 1948 (sources differ) and served as a state farm headquarters, children's camps in the 1960s and later a hotel. It was restituted to a Kendeffy heir in the late 1990s, passed to her son, then to a cousin, and in the 2010s to the company Revis Com of Miercurea Ciuc. It has stood unused and closed for years.
