History
The Alárdi family's earlier castle was destroyed in the 1570s, and in 1610 István Haller began a new one from its stones; his son János finished it in 1674. Count Gábor Haller remodelled it in the Baroque style in the 1760s-1780s. The Haller family held it until nationalisation in 1949. A state-led restoration took place in 1959-1960, after which it served as an agricultural centre, a school and a vegetable store, and was then abandoned. A Haller heir regained it through a long legal process (2001 according to one source) and donated it to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Alba Iulia. The roof has collapsed and the interior is largely destroyed; reuse proposals have not been funded.
