Summary

A 19th-century manor in Căpușu de Câmpie (Iclănzel commune, Mureș County) belonging to the Sándor family, whose best-known member, János Sándor, was Hungary's interior minister in 1913-1917. It now houses a care and assistance centre.

History

The Sándor family, originally from Mihăileni, held land at Căpușu de Câmpie from the mid-18th century, after Pál Sándor married Ágnes Szeredai in 1758. The estate passed from father to son; János Sándor (1815-1887), a judge of the Royal Court in Târgu Mureș, used the manor only as a summer residence. His youngest son János Sándor (1860-1922) became Lord Lieutenant of Kis-Küküllő county and, in 1913-1917, home secretary in the Tisza government; he was married to a daughter of Count István Tisza. Castle in Transylvania dates the manor to the end of the 19th century, and Monumente Uitate records its current function as a care and assistance centre.
