History
Cornea Brăiloiu, great ban of Craiova and collaborator of Constantin Brâncoveanu, built the house in the late 17th century on an inherited estate; the church beside it dates from 1693-1694. After the Brăiloiu line died out, several families held Vădeni. Around the mid-19th century the merchant Dumitru Pleniceanu revived the estate, and he and his heirs repaired the house in 1866-1867, restored the church in 1911 and built a school and town hall, leaving their assets to the community. Under communism the building had several uses. In the 2000s it was taken over by the Metropolis of Oltenia and restored under a government project, with church painting finished in 2006. Since 2016 the house, with 10 rooms and a cellar turned into a conference hall, hosts the Târgu Jiu Nord deanery.
