Summary

An Oltenian fortified boyar tower-house in Șiacu (Slivilești, Gorj), built 1818-1825. Abandoned after 1989, it was stabilised from 2020 and, per Wikipedia, is in county-funded restoration.

Legal status

Nationalised; heirs claimed it after 1989 and Gorj County Council bought it back ↗

History

Răducan Cioabă began the cula in 1818-1819 and died before finishing; his widow married Marin Chintescu of Craiova, who completed it in 1823. It passed through the female line to the Grecescu, Bălteanu and Cartianu families. It served as a warehouse until 1964; a 1964-1967 restoration by architect Iancu Atanasescu made it the commune's ethnographic museum. After 1989 the building was abandoned, then looted and decayed. Heirs claimed it, and the Gorj County Council bought it back. In 2020 the Ambulanța pentru Monumente programme began securing the building, starting with a new roof of fir shingles.
