Summary

A two-storey wooden cula-type house in Larga village, Samarinești commune, Gorj County, dated to the 1820s. Described as the only surviving wooden building of its type, it is at risk and a heritage NGO has been campaigning to save it.

History

The house stands beside the wooden St Nicholas church, founded in 1826. Its veranda beams resemble those of the church porch, which led researchers to date it to the 1820s. It is known as the house of Ion C. Săvoiu; the Săvoiu family held many estates in Gorj, and the last owners were a schoolteacher and his wife. At the start of the 20th century the veranda was glazed, two windows were opened and the walls plastered. The building has a cellar and small hall with a stair on the ground floor and two rooms plus a veranda upstairs. In 2025 the association Ambulanța pentru Monumente – Oltenia Vest announced a worksite there.
