Summary

A boyar residence at Cozmești, Stolniceni-Prăjescu commune, Iași County, completed in 1816 for the treasurer Grigoraș Sturdza and enlarged by his son Mihail Sturdza, later Prince of Moldavia. It now houses a centre for the guidance and placement of young adults leaving child-protection homes.

History

The Cozmești estate is first documented in 1803. Treasurer Grigoraș Sturdza had the mansion completed in 1816 on the site of older boyar houses, to plans by the architect Iosif Demesovici. His son Mihail Sturdza (1794-1884), Prince of Moldavia from 1834 to 1849, added an upper floor. After Mihail's death in Paris, his children disputed the estate, and in 1884 Cozmești passed to Grigore M. Sturdza (1821-1901), a deputy and senator. The building is today used as an orientation, qualification and placement centre for young people over 18.
