History
The present manor was built in 1869-1874 by Italian craftsmen for the Marghiloman family, incorporating walls of a late-17th-century boyar house, with later work completed in 1887. The Marghiloman family held it until nationalisation in 1949; after 1950 the agricultural cooperative (CAP) used it as a barn. The Ministry of Culture took it over and began a restoration in 1996 (works 1992-2004 per INP), but the contractor went bankrupt, the building was looted and the work stayed unfinished, so even restored parts were lost. The state-owned building is now administered by the National Heritage Institute (INP). A 2016 DALI restoration study was approved by the National Commission of Historic Monuments. In October 2020 INP announced about EUR 2 million from RO-CULTURA, with a start of 1 October 2020 and works planned within 43 months; whether the works have been carried out is not known.
