Summary

A 17th-century manor house on a small hill in the centre of Bichiș (Mureș County), locally called the small castle. It belonged to the Kemény family and combines late Renaissance and Baroque features, notably an arcaded porch.

History

The Kemény family held Bichiș as a noble estate, and the village is the birthplace of the Transylvanian prince János Kemény (1607). The manor, the family's second residence in the village, was rebuilt in 1651 after an earlier building was destroyed in the Fifteen Years' War. The porch has four pillars carrying five arches. According to the Romanian Wikipedia it was planned with two storeys but finished with one, making the porch asymmetrical. The same source reports renovation work between 2020 and 2023.
