History
According to Monumente Uitate, the Jakabffy family, of Armenian descent from Gherla, bought the Zăgujeni estate in 1808. After Miklós Jakabffy died in 1841, his adopted sons Imre and Gyula Kopal inherited it; Imre built a new residential complex, today the seat of the village orphanage. In the interwar period Elemér Jakabffy, a minority-rights politician and vice-president of the Hungarian Party, worked here. He was arrested at Zăgujeni in 1944 and interned in Bucharest, and the residence passed to the state. The same source says Gyula's debts forced him to sell the estate to Baroness Hermine von der Heydte, and after her son's early death in 1874 it was sold to the Viennese industrial family Juhász.
