Summary
A neoclassical manor of the mid-19th century in Șimand, Arad County, on the DN79 road about 28 km from Arad, linked to the Urbán de Monyoró barons. Fully renovated in 1994, it is again for sale; the sale listing mentions 16 bedrooms and a pool.
History
The manor was built in the middle of the 19th century by the Urbán de Monyoró barons, a Hungarian noble family whose seat was Monyoród (today Mânerău) and whose members served as high officials and prefects in Arad County. Sources disagree on the builder: one names Baron Petru Urban, another says it most likely belonged to Gyula Urbán, father of Péter Urbán (1870-1935). It was fully renovated in 1994 with original architectural elements kept. In 2020 a historic-estate agency offered it for EUR 490,000 as one of three Transylvanian castles, and it is now listed by Romania Sotheby's with the price on request.
