Summary

A castle in the centre of Pomi (Remetemező), Satu Mare County, said to have been built in the 17th century by the Tholdy family and later inherited by the Ujfalussy family. It has no current function, and only remnants of its park survive.

History

Pomi (Hungarian Remetemező) is first mentioned in 1424 and belonged in turn to Pauline monks, the Drágffy family and the Szatmár fortress estate. By the late 17th century the Tholdy, Miske, Cserényi, Horváth and Peley families held its land. According to the regional newspaper Gazeta de Nord-Vest, the Tholdy castle was built in the 17th century in the centre of the village and was later inherited by the Ujfalussy family. At the end of the 18th century József Ujfalussy inherited the estate through his wife Julianna Tholdy, and it passed to his son Miklós and then to a later Miklós Ujfalussy, whose castle is photographed around 1880. Today the building has no function, and remnants of its park survive.
