Summary

A mid-18th-century manor ensemble in Coțofenii din Față (Dolj) on the left bank of the Jiu, with a neo-Romanian manor, a neoclassical house, a church and a park. It served as the location of the 1976 film Tănase Scatiu and was reported derelict in 2014.

Legal status

Listed monument DJ-II-a-A-08252 (protected since 2004 per press); claimed by heirs in the 1990s, restitution paperwork finalised 2014 ↗

History

The ensemble is dated to the mid-18th century in the monuments list; its builders and early owners are not known. Under communism the manor served as an agricultural cooperative (CAP). In 1976 it was chosen for the film Tănase Scatiu (director Dan Pița) and had its last major renovation around then. Afterwards it was largely forgotten and decayed through neglect, weather and theft. The heirs had claimed it in the 1990s and the paperwork was finalised only in 2014, which was to let the owner start rehabilitation.
