Summary

The ruins of a 17th-century fortified boyar house (kula) next to the church of the Beheading of St John the Baptist in Vlădești, Argeș County. They are thought to belong to the Vlădescu family seat and barely rise above ground.

History

In 1656 the great treasurer (mare vistiernic) Pârvu Vlădescu built a church on his estate, dedicated to the Beheading of St John the Baptist, and was buried at its entrance in 1658. Beside it stand the ruins of a compact, square building of mixed stone and brick, possibly an old kula and probably part of the family's boyar residence, dated to the 17th century. The structure is barely visible above ground and is outside the tourist circuit. The Monumente Uitate entry records the function as dwelling and the site as accessible.
