History
Căminar Gheorghe Drugănescu, a tax collector and former ispravnic of Muscel County, had the kula built in 1822 by the mason Gheorghe Ghinea of Vâlsănești; a Cyrillic inscription over the entrance records it. In 1832 it passed by bequest to Zinca Grecov, then to Nicolae Laptev (1862-1884), whose son auctioned it in 1884 to a banker named Jianu, who gave it as dowry to his daughter, wife of Colonel Alexandru Cărcăleteanu. It was nationalised in 1949, restored in 1965-1966 and opened as a history and ethnography museum in 1970. The 1977 and 1986 earthquakes damaged it, the exhibits were removed in 1988 and it has been closed since.
