Museum guide lists opening 'on demand'; condition may prevent interior access
Summary
A fortified Oltenian cula (c. 1800) above Cerneți (Șimian commune, Mehedinți) traditionally linked to Tudor Vladimirescu, though one historian attributes the present house to the boyar Gărdăreanu after 1838. Disused and badly deteriorated, it is administered by Șimian town hall, which sought EU funds to restore it as a museum.

History
Tradition says the cula was built around 1800 (some sources 1802) by Tudor Vladimirescu, who owned land at Cerneți and where the 1821 uprising was prepared. A 1977 book argues that only a wooden lookout stood there in his time, and that sărdar Ion Gărdăreanu bought the vineyard in 1838 and built the boyar-style house now called his cula. It served as a museum from 1967 (or 1955 per the museum guide) to 1977. Heirs of the boyar Gărdărescu claimed the property, and the dispute blocked investment by the Iron Gates Region Museum. Since 2013 it has been administered by Șimian town hall, which applied in 2017 for about 1 million EUR in cross-border EU funds for restoration and a museum. Reports describe it as in advanced disrepair, with a damaged roof.
