Nistor Tower-House, Cerneți
Cula Nistor
sat Cerneți; comuna Șimian, Mehedinți · „Dealul Gârdanului”, în fostul sat înglobat Piatra Albă
Summary
A two-storey tower-house (cula) of 1812 in Cerneți, Șimian commune, Mehedinți County, built for a captain of the pandurs named Nistor. After repairs by the regional museum in 2009 it served as an ethnographic museum section, and the commune began a new restoration in 2023.
History
The tower-house was built for Nistor, described as a captain of the pandurs; Wikipedia gives 1812 in the infobox although the lead says 1800. It has a raised ground floor with loopholes and a heavy wooden door, a cellar, and an upper floor reached by an interior stair to a carved wooden gallery across the front. A restoration project by architect Micaela Adrian was drawn up in 1974 but never completed. In 2009 the Iron Gates Region Museum carried out repairs, and the building worked as an ethnographic museum section afterwards. In 2023 Șimian town hall started a new restoration meant to turn it into a cultural centre with exhibition halls, event space and craft workshops. Monumente Uitate listed it as having no current function.
