Summary

A Late Baroque L-shaped castle at Filiaș (Fiatfalva), now part of Cristuru Secuiesc, on the site of a 15th-century Geréb manor. Fully restored in 2021-2024 by the private owners, it works as an accommodation and event centre.

Legal status

Nationalised 1949; returned to the Ugron descendants 1998; sold within the family in 2005 ↗

History

A Geréb manor stood here from the 15th century; around 1625 András Geréb rebuilt it as a fortified Renaissance castle. After many owners, Miklós Mikó carried out the main Baroque reconstruction after 1817. János Ugron bought it in 1866, and Zoltán Ugron ran a model farm and stud there from 1882. Pál Ugron was the last owner before nationalisation in 1949, after which state farm offices used it; it stood empty from 1990 and decayed. It was returned to the Ugron descendants in 1998 and in 2005 sold within the family to a family descendant and her husband. The roof was restored in 2010, and full restoration with Hungarian state support ran in 2021-2024.
