Legal status

Listed historic monument of national importance, class A (LMI PH-II-m-A-16468). According to a 2024 travel blog, returned to heirs after the communist period ↗

History

On 25 July 1658 Prince Mihnea III granted the village of Drăgănești to Șerban Cantacuzino, then a postelnic; this is the first record of the buildings, which were reportedly raised for him before he became ruler. The estate passed by inheritance among the Cantacuzino descendants until the mid-19th century, when it was put up for sale and bought by Anastasia Xenocrat, founder of the 'Sf. Împărați' church in Drăgănești. The manor has a rectangular plan over deep cellars, which survive intact, while the upper parts were altered and modernised. A 2024 travel blog says the communist elite used the site for recreation and that it was later returned to heirs. A 2022 blog describes the ruins, mixing brick of various periods and later additions, as almost swallowed by vegetation and heavily looted after 1989.
