sat Căiuți; comuna Căiuți, Bacău
Listed as accessible by Monumente Uitate
Summary
A manor with park built in 1846 in Căiuți (Bacău County) by the Răducanu-Rosetti family, a national-interest monument (LMI BC-II-a-A-00805). The historian Radu Rosetti spent his childhood on the Căiuți estate, and local tradition links the house to the preparations for the 1859 union of Moldavia and Wallachia.
History
The manor is listed as an ensemble of manor house and park (19th-20th century). The ro.wikipedia commune page dates the house to 1846; a heritage-site page says work began under Răducanu Rosetti II, was carried out by masters from Dresden, and dates the build variously to 1840-1855. In the late 19th century the main landowners were the heirs of Răducanu Rosetti, the largest share held by the wife of General G. Catargiu (1899 geographic dictionary). Local tradition says Moldavian politicians such as Costache Negri, Vasile Alecsandri and Manolache Costache Epureanu met there while the union of the Principalities was prepared; this is presented as a story, not documented fact. The historian and general Radu Rosetti grew up on the estate. In February 2003 the press reported that the Ministry of Culture and a World Bank loan would fund restoration of the manor (about 3.2 billion lei plus about 10 billion lei), the largest allocation of the county heritage directorate that year; the outcome is not known.
