History
The boyar Nicolae Donici had the manor built in 1857-1858 on the Gârbovana estate, inherited from his father Iordache Donici, to the design of an Italian architect, combining Italian and Moldavian elements. Donici sold Gârbovana for 80,000 gold lei to the engineer-architect Nicolae Cerkez. Cerkez left it to his daughter Cristina, married to Grigore Carp, son of the politician Petre P. Carp, and she passed it to her daughter Ileana, who married into the Negri family. The earthquake of 10 November 1940 severely damaged the building, which an Italian architect based in Târgu Ocna rebuilt in its original appearance. The estate was confiscated in 1949; the manor served as a state-farm headquarters and then, until 1989, as the local collective-farm headquarters. A descendant recovered the manor, outbuildings and about 4 ha of built-up land, 7.1 ha in all, in 2001, and, according to Luceafărul, the owner later offered the property for sale at 250,000 euro.
