Summary

A listed old stone building in Săveni (Botoșani County), described as a former inn, which has housed the county archaeology museum since the 1960s. Museum activity has stopped because of its advanced decay, and the County Council has begun a restoration project worth over 8 million lei.

History

A 2026 press report calls the building an inn (ratoș) of 1818 with stone walls nearly a metre thick, and Romanian Wikipedia says late 17th century, so the dating is unsettled. The building has housed the archaeology museum since the 1960s. The museum shows Paleolithic finds from Ripiceni and Mitoc, Cucuteni pottery and a memorial collection for the physicians Mihai and Alexandru Ciucă. Because of advanced degradation the museum is closed. In March 2026 the Botoșani County Council moved to fund structural consolidation, a new roof frame and new utilities.
