History

The Miorcani estate belonged to Prince Alexandru Șuțu in 1864 and was recorded as property of the Pillat family from 1913. The poet Ion Pillat spent time at his parents' manor at Miorcani on the Prut; his mother was a sister of the Prime Minister I. C. Brătianu. The official list dates the manor to 1830. The house later served as a hospital for Darabani. Lacking funds for upkeep, the heirs donated four buildings and about 10 ha (roughly 3.8 ha around the manor and 6.2 ha of Prut-bank forest) to the Metropolis of Moldavia and Bucovina, with the stated aim of a social and cultural centre. A press account describes the buildings as ruined and closed.
