Summary

A neo-Romanian manor finished in 1905 at Guranda (Durnești commune, Botoșani County) for Mihai and Mathilde Alexandrescu. Used as a TB hospital until 2011, it returned to the heirs in 2008 and has been on the market since 2019.

Legal status

Nationalised 1948; recovered by heirs 2008; county council pre-emption proposals rejected 2023 and 2024 ↗

History

The main house was completed in 1905 for Mihai and Mathilde Alexandrescu in a neo-Romanian style. The family lived there until nationalisation in 1948, after which the building became a tuberculosis hospital that operated until 2011. The heirs recovered the property in 2008. In 2019 it was offered by Artmark at auction with a starting price of 300,000 EUR and an estimate of roughly 500,000-750,000 EUR. Botoșani County Council proposals to exercise its pre-emption right were voted down in February 2023 and again in January 2024. A 2025 article describes about 23 rooms, over 1,300 m2 and 16.48 ha including a two-hectare lake.
