History
Nicolae (Nicolas) Chrissoveloni bought the Ghidigeni estate from Dimitrie Mavrocordat in 1879 and built the manor with its annexes on it, together with a church and a school; SoNoRo Conac and Adevărul give 1887 for the manor, while another Adevărul article says 1878. It was built in the French academic style with Romantic influences, set in a large park with a bowling alley and a covered tennis court. During the First World War its annexes housed a hospital for wounded soldiers, which Queen Maria and Sybille Chrissoveloni set up. A fire in the 1930s damaged the building. It was nationalised in 1948 and used as a state farm and later as a school for children with special needs. The heirs regained it in 2004; in April 2023 a consolidation, restoration and re-use project began, co-financed by the Monument Stamp programme.
