Summary
A derelict single-storey manor in Cubulcut (Érköbölkút), about 55 km from Oradea, linked by local tradition to the Holy Crown of Hungary, said to have been hidden here in 1848-49. Romania Sotheby's offers it at EUR 129,000 (417 m², 10 rooms, 6,635 m² plot); it needs complete renovation and is partly roofless.
History
Sources disagree on the date: some press says 18th century, while Sotheby's-derived articles (Economica, Adevărul) say 1888. The manor is tied to the Hungarian revolution: as Kossuth's government withdrew toward Debrecen in 1848-49, local tradition says Sámuel Bónis (1810-1879) and Josipovics moved the Holy Crown in secret, disguised as cattle dealers, and it was briefly hidden here in the barn; the crown then went on to the Baranyi castle at Tóti. The sale description itself concedes that little supports the claim. The crown later returned to Buda and, after 1945, went via Austria, Germany and the US, returning to Hungary in 1978. Nothing is known about owners, nationalisation or restitution. The house has been advertised for years: EUR 145,000 in Dec 2022 - Mar 2023, EUR 149,000 in Jan 2023, and EUR 129,000 in June 2026.
