History

Brothers Marcel and Emil Atanasevici, of a Serbian noble family that received local lands for services to the Habsburgs, began the complex in 1840, with Serbian craftsmen and Italian colonists. It passed to a niece, whose husband leased it to the nobleman Béla Ambrozy. After World War I the Riesz family acquired it and held it until nationalisation in 1947. In the communist period it served as a maternity home, a collective-farm headquarters and lodging for seasonal workers.
