History
The Tisza family held the Ghiorac (Csegőd) estate from 1761, and Kálmán Tisza the younger developed it into a model farm. He commissioned the castle, designed by Győző Czigler, in 1892-1893. After Trianon the family's estates were split between Hungary and Romania and this one fell to Romania. The castle was nationalised in 1949 and later served as a sports resort and training base, then as a home for children with disabilities that became internationally known in 1990 after press reports on conditions there. After long court cases the property was returned to the Tisza heirs. In 2009 the county council said the family wanted 1.5 million EUR for it. The heirs repaired the roof; the children's institution still uses the courtyard and outbuildings. According to Kastély Erdélyben, the family has decided to sell the castle and estate.
