Summary

An 18th-century Baroque castle in Ilișua, likely built by Baron Kozma Petrichevich-Horváth and last reconstructed around 1900.

History

The Petrichevich-Horváth family gained the estate through a marriage. The castle was most probably built by Baron Kozma (IV) Petrichevich-Horváth (1735-1794), lieutenant general of the two Romanian Frontier Regiments, probably reusing material from an older manor. The family held it until the mid-19th century, when the Kendeffy family inherited it. In 1848 Romanian insurgents looted the castle and the Protestant church. The building was reshaped around 1900.
