Summary

A manor in Nușeni (Hungarian Apanagyfalu), Bistrița-Năsăud County, held by the Bethlen family from the late 17th century before passing to the Bánffys. Monumente Uitate lists a social-care centre in the building, while Wikipedia describes the Bethlen manor as a ruin.

History

The village belonged to the Apafi family from the 13th to the 16th century and takes its Hungarian name from them. In 1667 Mihály Apafi I and his wife Anna Bornemisza named the Bethlen family as heirs, and the Bethlens were the largest landowners from the early 18th century to the mid-19th. Around then the estate passed to the Bánffy family. In autumn 1853 lessons were held in the Bethlen manor, and a school was founded there in 1856. The writer and patron Ferenc Bánffy was born in the village in 1869, and a manor built by the Bánffys now houses local institutions. The Bethlen manor's construction date is not recorded.
