History
The Daniel family is first recorded here in 1580, and the oldest surviving parts date from the late 16th century. Ferenc Daniel enlarged it into a castle in the 1640s-1650s; it was damaged by the Tatar raid of 1661. A Renaissance loggia is dated 1745, a palace wing was added in 1797, and a Classicist north wing in 1853. In 1937 a further wing and a neo-Renaissance porch were added to plans by József Köpeczi Sebestyén. The castle was nationalised in 1949, used by a state farm and local council, and restored in 1981-1984. Heirs of the Daniel family regained it after 1989 and sold it in 2005 to the municipality of Esztergom, Hungary, which sold it in 2023 for 477,000 EUR to the Magyar Turizmus Akadémia; restoration was reported for 2025-2026.
