Summary

A class A monument in Deleni (Iași County): a c. 1730 boyar manor with 36 rooms, a 1669 church, outbuildings and a park on 4.23 ha, remodelled in the early 20th century by Nicolae Ghika-Budești. Returned to the former owners' heirs after 1990 but never restored, it is offered by Romania Sotheby's for 750,000 EUR.

Legal status

Nationalised; returned to the former owners' heirs after 1990 ↗

History

The oldest element is the church of 1669 beside a boyar court. The present manor dates from about 1730 and passed to the Ghica family when Maria Cantacuzino married Constantin Ghica in 1778, founding the Ghica-Deleni branch. Works, including a stone enclosure wall, continued until 1802, and early in the 20th century the architect Nicolae Ghika-Budești remodelled it. Soviet troops were quartered there in 1944-1946 and damaged it. After nationalisation it served as a cultural house and, from the 1950s, as a children's tuberculosis preventorium. After 1990 it was returned to the heirs, but lack of funds prevented restoration; it was offered through Artmark in 2019 and later through Romania Sotheby's.
