History

The palace was built in the early 19th century by the family of the boyar Vasile Beldiman. On 24 October 1831 an institute for the education of noblemen's sons opened here; its first graduates, among them Mihail Kogălniceanu, left for Paris in 1834. Princess Olga Sturdza, daughter of Alexandru Mavrocordat, owned it in the early 20th century and set up an orphanage in 1917. A higher school of agriculture opened in the building in 1919. In 1946 Olga Sturdza donated the palace, over 200 ha of land and the parks to the state. An ethnographic museum of Moldavian agriculture opened in it in 1980. In 2023 the palace was reported to be under the Iași County Council, which began technical expertise for consolidation.
