History
Ion Nanu-Muscel (1862-1938), professor of clinical medicine and senator, won the plot at an auction in June 1908. The house was designed by Ernest Doneaud and built c. 1909-1911; the older attribution to Ion D. Berindey and the date 1890 are considered false. The family's fate under communism is unclear, and the professor Socrate Lalu is reported to have lived there. The Academy of Economic Studies bought the property in 2012 after earlier failed attempts, and the house became a historic monument in 2013. The main body stood in ruin until 2015, its interiors have since been destroyed, and the Academy announced a plan to keep the facades within a new seven-storey building, against the opposition of civil society.
