History
Gheorghe Pleșa, a boyar who had studied law in France, built the castle in the style of the Loire Valley châteaux; the sources give 1892, though one passage suggests it was ready for guests in 1882. Its components were reportedly made in Italy, shipped to Portul Gruia and carted to the site. The interior had marble columns, carved wooden stairs and Venetian mirrors. Pleșa died in France, unmarried and without heirs. From 1948 to about 1971 it belonged to a state agricultural machinery station. After 1972 the furnishings were lost and the building housed workers and soldiers. It is now reported as leased for 49 years to an investor who is to restore it.
