Summary

The Stolojan house and its outbuildings in Herăști (Giurgiu County), a listed historic monument in the south-west corner of the older Năsturel-Herescu court. The house was formed between 1881 and 1901 by adding a storey to an earlier building, when the estate belonged to the politician Anastase Stolojan.

Legal status

Nationalised in 1949; part of the former Stolojan property returned to the heirs by restitution in 2013 ↗

History

Anastase Stolojan, a politician, bought the Herăști estate in 1881 from Baron Mihály Nicolić de Rudna. Under him an existing building shown on the 1876 estate plans was raised by one storey, giving today's Casa Stolojan; its ground floor may date from the Obrenovici period, when a plinth carried the year 1833. The Stolojan house covers 494 m². The family kept the estate until its nationalisation in 1949. In 2013 part of the property was returned to the heirs, and in 2020 the estate, offered for sale by the heirs, was bought, and the estate is described as entering a new period of conservation and restoration.
