History
Grand treasurer (vistiernic) Ștefan Bellu (1767-1833), built the boyar court at the end of the 18th century and rebuilt it in 1818, adding a church inside the walls. The estate passed to his son Alexandru-Alecu Bellu (1796-1853) and then to Alexandru's sons Ștefan and Barbu; Barbu donated the land for the Bellu Cemetery in Bucharest. The church was last used for worship in 1857, when the village built a new one. Alexandru Bellu (1850-1921) moved the family seat to Urlați (Prahova) and Gostinari was neglected. In 2008 the Giurgiu bishopric founded the Barbu Bellu - Gostinari hermitage, under Comana Monastery, to preserve the ruins and prepare a restoration project. In 2009 the government allocated 200,000 lei for restoration documentation, but no substantial works had been recorded as of 2024.
