Curtea brâncovenească din Doicești
sat Doicești; comuna Doicești, Dâmbovița · Str. Brâncoveanu Constantin 291
Open park as of 2007
Summary
Ruined princely residence built by Constantin Brâncoveanu for his son Matei after he bought the Doicești estate in 1702. Only enclosure walls, house foundations and the 1706 Nativity church remain; the site is now a public park.
History
Constantin Brâncoveanu bought the Bărbătești estate in 1701 and the neighbouring Doicești estate from the Bălăceni boyars in 1702, then built a residence for his fourth son Matei. The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin dates from 1706. The residence stood in a walled enclosure with a pond. The church was left neglected after a new church was built nearby. A 2007 report describes only ruins: the south and west walls survive, the north wall has largely collapsed and house foundations are visible. The grounds were fenced and laid out as Parcul Mateiaș with busts of Brâncoveanu and his sons.
